Perpetrators of the violence on both sides of this declared “war” have strong links to the US School of the Americas/WHINSEC. Ciudad Juarez Police Chief, Julian Leyzaola Pérez, accused of torture, arbitrary detention and violence against activists, is another graduate of this infamous school (read a UNHCR report that cites Leyzaola here.) On the side of the drug cartels,at least one third of the original members of the drug cartel known as the “Zetas” are deserted members of the Mexican military who have graduated from the SOA/WHINSEC.

Dedicated to the 99%

This is more than prohibiting flights by the nights
It is about awareness
It is about guarding our human rights

We have come together
We are grand
We are taking a stand
Maybe you don’t understand

The world lost
Princess Diana
Malcolm X
Dr. King
Gandhi
JFK
RFK
Back in the day
They represented
Collective voices

Today a movement has taken shape
Something astounding has taken place
Those superficial differences are being erased
Prejudice is unattended
The 99% have arisen

Collectively, we have become our own voice
And in togetherness
We know that we have a choice
To change course
In a tour de force
The world around has reinforced

And I have never felt so alive
Felt life so surreal
Felt so sublime
This feeling no longer an internal rhyme
Empathetic togetherness
A mountain of injustice we must climb

From racial profiling to corporate greed
Gapping and unjust income inequality
To lack of opportunity
All the way to banking and Wall Street crime
To the mountain top of democracy
We will climb
We will strive and thrive
Compassion
We will imbibe

Our Forefathers wisdom and constitutional design
Is still pulsating in our hearts and minds
This great nation shall surpass
This fascist attack
On the working class
At long last
May that greedy shadow that was cast
Become the dead hand of an un-American past

Monsanto has unleashed a micro-monster that could kill us all.

That’s according to Dr. Don Huber, an agricultural scientist and expert in microbial ecology, who’s convinced that Monsanto’s genetically engineered “RoundUp Ready” crops are responsible for a new micro-monster that’s causing an outbreak of new plant, animal and human diseases.

Please watch Dr. Joseph Mercola’s interview with Dr. Huber and then write USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, as Dr. Huber has, and urge him to place a moratorium on Monsanto’s RoundUp Ready crops until scientists learn more about this deadly micro-monster.

In the south region of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the border of Brazil and Paraguay, the most populous indigenous nation of the country silently struggle for its territory, trying to contain the advance of its powerful enemies.

Expelled from their lands because of the continuous process of colonization, more than 40,000 Guarani Kaiowá live nowadays in less than 1% of their original territory. Over their lands there are now thousands of hectares of sugarcane planted by multinational enterprises that, in agreement with the government, show ethanol to the world as an environment friendly and “clean” fuel.

Without the lands and the forests, the Guarani Kaiowá have been coexisting for years with a malnutrition epidemic that reach their children. With no alternative of subsistence, adults and kids are exploited in the cane fields in exhausting working days. In the production line of the “clean” fuel, the Federal Public Prosecutor constantly sues the owners of the plants because of the child labor and the slave labor found there.

Amid the delirium of the green gold fever (the way people call sugarcane), indigenous leadership that face the imposed power many times find as their fate the death ordered by the big farmers.

South Korean Farmers Protest Over USA Free Trade Agreement

South Korean farmers take part in a rally to protest against the South Korean Free Trade agreement (FTA) with the USA at Seoul Railway Station on December 8, 2010 in Seoul, South Korea. President Barack Obama cited his pleasure at the resolution of outstanding issues over the deal last week, a deal expected to increase American goods exported to South Korea by up to USD11 billion. The 2007-signed FTA had been held up due to concerns over auto and beef industries, with Obama hoping the new pact will be a model for future FTAs.
